Volunteer

Considering volunteering?

Working as part of a team of adult volunteers, adult leaders assist in the planning and delivery of an exciting programme of outdoor activities, community projects, games, challenges, learning about global issues, camps and even sometimes international trips!

This is a fun and rewarding role and is ideal for people that enjoy working with young people. Over time you will see our young members grow in confidence and ability as they learn from the programme you help run.

We know that life can be busy, so we’re all about flexibility: You really can give as much of your time as you choose on your terms! You may think that you have nothing to offer but you’d be surprised! Give us just one hour (in a way that suits you), and you can help us provide scouting to even more young people.

No previous experience of scouting is necessary. What’s more important is your own skills and experience as well as empathy with our mission and values. We provide a warm welcome, a sociable network, a relevant level of easy to access training and lots of online resources to help with the planning of activities as well as lots of ongoing face to face support.

Being part of scouting is great fun and it goes without saying that helping young people can be one of the most rewarding things you can do, plus it also looks great on your CV!

Young leaders

Young Leaders volunteer alongside adult leaders in a Beaver Colony, Cub Pack or Scout Troop. They're a valuable asset to any leadership team and play an active role in the section, bringing a range of fresh ideas to the table and acting as positive role models for the young people they work alongside.

As well as developing valuable life skills, the scheme is an opportunity for young people aged 14-18 to make a positive impact in their communities and to fulfil the service elements of many of the top awards in Scouts, or their Duke of Edinburgh's Award.

The Young Leaders’ Scheme is the training programme for Young Leaders. It contains 11 modules and four missions for them to work through whilst volunteering in their chosen section. Modules give Young Leaders the skills and knowledge to be successful in their role, while missions allow them to put everything into practice with support.

Current vacancies

Assistant Section Leader

This exciting role involves working with a small leadership team to enable the planning and delivery of a varied and interesting programme for the section members.

Our sections meet weekly during term time to take part in a wide range of activities including skills, games, crafts, visits, along with plenty of outdoor activities. They will also have the opportunity to take part in the fun and excitement of camps.

You will not only benefit from supporting young people, but also from gaining new skills and developing yourself through the Scouts internationally recognised Adult Training Scheme.

Facilities Manager

As a group, we are looking at options for long term facilities for all our sections, as well as our partner explorer unit.  A facilities manager would be responsible for looking into and creating opportunities for the group to consider at the executive committee.

The facilities manager role will also involve being part of the executive committee, assisting the committee in making informed decisions in the interests of the group.

Beaver, Cub & Scout representatives for the Executive Committee

The Executive Committee meets every term and makes decisions about the Group, fund raising and moving the Group forward. It is important to have two representatives from each section at the executive Committee to make sure all sections are represented when making decisions on behalf of the Group. We are looking for representatives for the above sections who would be able to give their points of view as parents or guardians of young people of this age.

Transport Manager

We frequently have offsite activities for all sections of the group. The transport manager works to manage requirements for transport to and from events such as for minibuses or vans, and works with the Group Scout Leader and Section Leaders to ensure that this is cost-efficient.

The transport manager would need to be an organised individual, however no other experience is required.

Group Events Manager

As the group grows, we would like to arrange more social activities for families to get involved in, such as quiz nights, fun runs. The group events manager would have oversight of these events and work with other leaders and volunteers to organize the schedule for these events during the year, and ensure that they are successful and enjoyable.

...and much more!

If you have a particular skill or talent that you would like to offer the group - please speak to your leader and we will be in touch. For example, we have been very grateful for offers from volunteers to teach skills like calligraphy, or help repair and maintain equipment.
